Unicorn Magic

Wednesday, March 3, 2021

Hi friends. I'm excited to be teaming up again with my friends Faye and Iris from the Whimsy Stamps Creative Team for another challenge. This time, we are using the brand new Unicorn Magic set that was just released a couple of days ago.

You can find Faye's card here where she used Copic markers. Iris' card is here and she used colored pencils. It was my turn to use watercolors.

So I dusted off my watercolors and got to work. My efforts ended up in the trash as I was completely unhappy with the results. I obviously need to get these out much more often to have a play. I'm not even kidding when I say it looked like a three year old colored the image.

And as I was running out of time, I decided I had to "cheat" so I pulled out some Distress inks and did some "water coloring" with these inks and water and some smooshing.

I did multiple layers of inks and water making sure to dry my paper in between each time so I could build up the layers. I then stamped this cute little unicorn image onto my "water colored" background with black ink. I added it to a white card base and then die cut three of the clouds from the new Slimline Cloud die and stamped some of the different sentiments from the Unicorn Magic set onto them. I added them to the card, popping up one of them and this card is complete.

I appreciate you stopping by and hope you've been inspired. Have a wonderful day. Crafty hugs! ~ Alanna

Hey, I don't think you cheated at all. You used the ink and water to achieve your look so you watercolored in my mind! :) Thanks for sharing. This looks wonderful. I full appreciate a good trash dump, but I'll bet it looked better than you thought because we are all our own worst critics! Thanks for persevering and sharing. :) Crafty hugs!

I am one of those "less skilled" card makers and I'm 100% positive I would have been over the moon to have created one of your "trash dump" designs!!! And, I agree with Jeanne, "we are our own worst critics". Your final choice is beautiful and thank you for sharing!
