2 for 1 cards using Alcohol Inks and Lift-Ink

Tuesday, February 23, 2021

Hi friends. I'm up on the Whimsy Stamps blog with a fun tutorial using alcohol inks and Lift-ink so I thought I would share it here as well.

Here is a look at both cards we are making today. Both use the same exact supplies other than the paper used for the backgrounds.

I started by using a few colors of alcohol inks in aqua and green colors (all linked below) to create my background onto some Yugo paper until I was happy with the results.

I let it dry for just a few minutes and then put my Spring Flowers Background stamp into my Misti and inked it up with the Alcohol Lift-ink.

I stamped it directly on top of my alcohol inked background. I then took a clean paper towel and carefully blotted the background to pick up some of the ink. What you're left with is a ghost like impression of your stamp. The lift ink has removed the alcohol ink from the surface of the background.

I removed this background from my Misti and inserted a piece of plain white card stock. I then stamped the background onto the card stock and this is what I was left with. I love that you get two backgrounds for the "price" of one and of course, they both have a completely different feel and look to them.

Now that both my backgrounds are done, it was time to add them to card bases and do my stamping. I knew I wanted to let my backgrounds still be the focal point so I wanted to keep my stamping minimal.

For my first card, I added the alcohol inked background where we lifted off the Spring Flowers Background onto an aqua card base. I then stamped the Bouquet image directly on top of it. I finished off the card by stamping one of the sentiments from my favorite sentiment set, the Simple Sentiment Strips set that was released a couple of months ago.

For my second card, where we added the alcohol ink that was lifted off to white card stock, I die cut it using the largest die from the Wonky Stitched Rectangles die collection. I then took the same Bouquet stamp and Simple Sentiment Strips set and stamped them onto my card. This was added to an aqua card base.

And there you have it. What do you think? Have you tried this technique before? Maye you've played with alcohol inks before but not the Lift ink? Thanks so much for stopping by!

This looks really neat, Alanna! I think your alcohol inked background looks amazing. I really like the stamp image you chose to lift, definitely there, but not overwhelming. Almost splatter like. The two new cards you created are wonderful. Thanks for sharing. I have some lift off ink and have never used it. I may have to try it! Thanks for the nudge. Hope you have an amazing day!! I really like the two different effects created with the alcohol lift. Both cards are beautiful. This is a technique I'm going to have to try!
