Creating my own Cover Plate Die with Whimsy Stamps

Monday, February 10, 2020

Hi friends and welcome back to my blog. I have a fun card to share with you today where I took two single dies and made my own die cut background with them by doing lots of die cutting. All the stamps and dies I am using today are from Whimsy Stamps.

I do love a good A2 sized background die but those can get pricy. Here is a way to create a similar look but at a fraction of the price.

For my card, I started by taking a piece of white card stock along with two of the individual heart dies from the brand new Primitive Shaker Shapes die collection from the brand new February release at Whimsy Stamps and positioned them on my card panel close together and ran it through my die cutting machine.  I then continued to do this until my whole panel was die cut.

I sat this aside while I got to work on the actual card base.  I took the Gingham Background set from and stamped it directly onto my card base which was made out of light grey card stock. I used my Misti to make sure I would get a good impression.

I then took the You're my Favorite set and stamped my sentiments onto a piece of light grey card stock.  I die cut it with one of the dies from the Pierced & Stitched Circle dies.

I decided to also stamp a few hearts onto this circle to help fill in some of the space.  I added my die cut panel to my stamped card base and then added my sentiment circle with some foam tape. I rounded the bottom corners to help soften the feel of everything and this card is done.

Thanks so much for dropping by today. Crafty hugs! ~ Alanna

What a neat idea, Alanna! I love it! I like seeing the gingham peeking through all those pretty hearts. I like how you finished it off with the sentiment, too. Excellent work! Hugs!
